For months she had already pictured herself living in that mansion.
She had imagined the master suite.
The lavish parties.
The evenings beside the pool.
Elegant dinners in the home she had already considered hers.
Reality, however, was very different.
Standing before her was nothing more than a beautiful…
completely empty mansion.
Then Vanessa noticed something else.
“Why is it so hot in here?”
Brandon walked over to the thermostat.
He pressed the buttons repeatedly.
Nothing happened.
“The system’s been shut off.”
Vanessa turned on the kitchen faucet.
Only a faint gurgling came from the pipes.
Then… nothing.
“There’s not even any water.”
Everyone turned toward me.
“I requested that all utility services be disconnected.”
Silence returned immediately.
“The electricity.”
“The water.”
“The internet.”
“Every other utility.”
“Everything has been shut off.”
Brandon stood speechless.
Vanessa looked even more stunned.
“Even the Wi-Fi?”
I simply replied,
“Yes. Even the Wi-Fi.”
Several neighbors exchanged amused glances.
At that moment, everyone finally understood.
From the outside, the mansion still looked magnificent.
But inside…
There was no furniture.

No comfort.
No utilities.
And most importantly, no one had the legal right to live there without the permission of its sole owner.
The confidence they had arrived with only minutes earlier slowly gave way to uncertainty.
For the first time…
They realized nothing was going according to the plan they had imagined.
