When you borrow you husband’s shoes to get the mail.

Why Small Moments Matter

Life isn’t made memorable only by major milestones.

Of course we remember weddings.

Graduations.

Birthdays.

Vacations.

But years later, we also remember the completely ordinary moments that made us laugh.

Borrowing oversized shoes.

Burning pancakes together.

Getting caught in unexpected rain.

Dancing in the kitchen while dinner cooks.

These are the stories families tell again and again.

Not because they’re dramatic.

Because they’re real.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Later that evening, we looked through old photo albums.

There were pictures from our first apartment.

Camping trips.

Road trips.

Holiday gatherings.

And there, in one photo, was my husband wearing one of my oversized floppy sun hats while mowing the lawn.

I had completely forgotten.

Apparently borrowing each other’s belongings wasn’t exactly a new tradition.

We’ve been doing it for years.

The Secret Ingredient

People often ask what makes a happy marriage.

There isn’t one answer.

Every relationship is different.

But if I had to choose one ingredient that’s often overlooked, I’d say it’s humor.

Not grand romantic gestures.

Not expensive gifts.

Just the ability to laugh together.

Especially at yourselves.

Life becomes much lighter when nobody insists on being perfect.
